After The Glass Rainbow

Postby jbenham on Mon Jul 19, 2010 4:01 pm

This thread is for those that have finished The Glass Rainbow. You have to have read the book in order to understand why I am asking this question. What is the next book you read/have read/are going to read now that you have read The Glass Rainbow? I have several TBRs I put aside to read this book thinking it would be no problem to get started back on them afterward. After reading it, however I immediately wanted to reread another Robicheaux. I am up to Stained White Radiance in the rereads. Maybe this isn't the best one to reread immediately following TGR. Anyway, what are you reading now? :?:

HI Jeff
You mean there are actually books that can follow ...?? Pretty darn difficult act to follow, you ask me 8)

Well, I shall return to Thomas Perry's Jane Whitefield series ... and probably will read Rainbow again after the long list of library members have finished it.

Regards!!

After reading ANY of Jim's books, I find I must read something lighter, with lots of humor. So, my next book is Donna Andrew's STORK RAVING MAD.

Please don't get the idea that my brain is entirely soft, though. Immediately following Andrews, I will be back with THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST. Margaret Maron's new book will come in August, and I will probably follow with that.

I usually re-read Jim's book immediately. Think I will let this one sit a while.

Got to get my equilibrium back.

There are no authors to read after a Burke book period. LOL. So I am rereading Last Car to Elysian Fields as I too started rereading this series a few years ago. Then I will start at the beginning again. What is with us Burke fans? There are no books I am dying to read until Oct. and November with Jo-Ann Mapson's new one and a new Dennis Lehane. I probably will reread TGR after Last Car.

We like to read. :D I doubt that anyone is going to quit reading because of the ending in TGR. I just felt the need to reread a Robicheaux before continuing on with other authors. New releases seem to be in June and October. Stephen J Cannell seems to like January. Something light sounds like it would be a good idea. This book was a work of art.

It is really nice to be with other people who love to read. It is ridiculous how many bookcases we fill after my Jim builds yet another one. lol. I have two more Allende books to read Daughter of Fortune and Portraits in Sepia but I can't get enough of JLB!

It's difficult to read ANY author after JLB, but I read The Rembrandt Affair by Daniel Silva. He and his character, Gabriel Allon, never disappoint.

I really should go back and re-read all the Robicheaux books one of these summers...

HI gmacv
Welcome :)

I love Daniel Silva ... well, to be precise LOL, I've not yet found a Silva I didn't like. The Gabriel Allon character is pretty cool ... he's an artist and he's a spy ... I'm not anywhere close to the Rembrant Affair ... I think I need to finish 2 or 3 others first.

Regards!!

Great question!

I read my first JLB book (Crusader's Cross) in April, and absolutely loved it. So I ordered ALL of his books from Amazon.com, and read the Dave books in order, pretty much non-stop.

I finished Glass Rainbow last week, and decided to read the latest Daniel Silva for a change of pace. I've read all of Silva's books, and quite enjoyed the.

Not any more!

Compared to Mr. Burke, I found a lack of character, decrispion, and passion.

Mr. Burke has spoiled me! And given the ambigous ending of Glass Rainbow, it looks like my addiction to Dave and Clete may go unfulfilled forever.

Is there a 12-step program I can enter to help me through this terrible withdrawl I'm facing?

Can someone with influence please get Mr. Burke to keep the Dave and Clete books coming?

Fortuntely for me, I have not yet read Mr. Burke's other books. I'm planning to start with the first Billy Bob Holland, and then the others in order.

Thanks, ApachePete. Keep the faith, noble mon. Remember Clete's words: Good guys uber alles.

Best,
