Alec Baldwin is no Dave. The energy just wasn't there.
Tommy Lee Jones is another matter.I am so looking forward to that.

I think TLJ is a great choice for Dave.

He's got that weathered, cynical way about him. Alec Baldwin is a terrific actor, but TLJ has a more smoldering, deeper-rooted intensity. I also would think that TLJ would be familiar with the times associated with the book/movie.

After this film first hit the screen, when reading subsequent Robicheaux books, I forever after envisioned Streak as Alec Baldwin, both maturing along the way. Bootsie was recast as the mature Kim Basinger in my mind, after her "No Mercy" film role. I did not care for the rest of the casting in Heaven's Prisoners, and the director was the wrong choice, turning it into a Lethal Weaponesque action thriller. I did however enjoy watching my absolute favorite literary character in his younger self come to life on the screen, and will probably watch it again.

Hello, Loneangler,

Welcome. Interesting avatar. Tell us a little about yourself. What are you reading? Check out the Reader to Reader section. You will find members from several states, Canada and Australia. Sometimes we get serious, helpful, and sometimes crazy. Make that silly.

I am working on a JD Robb book. Rose calls them sherbets between serious reads, and avoiding serious homicide as my business email is not working and google is not cooperating. Other than that the world is fine. How about yours?

Hi theloneangler,

I have the same envision of Streak as Alec Baldwin after I saw the the movi on video for the first time over 10 years ago. Alec expresses Dave's mental pain in a way I often experience when reading a Dave Robicheaux book.

I have seen a screening version of "In The Electric Mist" with Tommy Lee Jones (linked from some where on this message board), but although Jones is one of my absolute favourite actors, I never realy associated him with Dave. Well, maybe that will change when I see the movi on DVD.

I actually liked the movie of "Heaven's Prisoners" when I saw it a long time ago, a couple times since and today. I briefly worked with Vondie Curtis Hall in NYC 22 years ago and he is an amazing actor and was wonderful in this. I thought a good job was done by all. I think Alec put a lot into his role as Dave. "Little Guy" is just so adorable too and I still cried at certain times during the movie. I think they did a good job of making the book into this movie.

How many of you all have seen "Public Enemies"? What a fine film? Johnny Depp as Dillinger is perfect. For anyone who likes films about American gangsters, this one is a metaphysical imperative.

Best,

HI Jim
I went to imdb.com to learn more about this movie ... I adore Johnny Depp ... and I thought I'd seen every film he'd made ... but nope, not this one!! Can't wait for it to come out on DVD (closest movie theatres are a 2-hour drive north or southeast :( )

Anyhow ... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1152836/ ... and then scroll down to "Fun Stuff" ... lots of trivia about the movie itself, the actors, mistakes and the back story. Very cool!!

Regards!!
