i'm almost done with creole belle, and as usual, i don't want the book to end. please don't ever let scruggs and tripod pass on to animal heaven. we know they're old, but they can stay that way forever. please just keep them in your stories, i'd be so upset if they died.
and has anyone ever asked this before? what the hell goes in a ham and onion sandwich, besides the obvious? mayo? mustard? is it on white bread? toasted?

Amen to Tripod and Snuggs. Something about having them still in the stories just makes me, for one, feel good. I think it just brings some kind of down-to-earth sanity to Dave's life, and leaves all of us readers to believe that there is some peace and tranquility in our world, amidst all of the violence and other negatives we deal with day by day. My next cat is going to be called Snuggs. Don't know if I'll ever get a racoon, though, let alone one with only 3 legs! Jim does such a good job in his books of inserting those two just at the right time, just as he did with his horses in the Hack Holland series. As to the Ham & Onion sandwich, I prefer mine with Creole mustard and avacado..but that's just me. I'm sure other readers have their own personal tastes.

please pardon my error...i called snuggs "scruggs". i work for a a group of doctors, and one of them is dr scruggs.
yum on the idea of avocado on that ham and onion sandwich! and the onions are raw, i assume. love it that that sandwich is always showing up. very comforting, for some reason. just like tripod and snuggs.

Snuggs and Tripod are great guys, members of Dave's family, as Snuggs was a member of mine. I have never understood how people could believe that animals do not possess the same feelings and loyalities that we do. I truly respect your sentiments, Mr. F.

Best,

After the inclusion of bread, ham, and onion, the options are wide open.

All the best,

i am now officially in my latest post-robicheaux funk, having finished creole belle, unable to put it down, but forcing myself to do so, because then it's not over so quickly.
this is the long period of waiting for the next book, and having to "scratch my itch" by re-reading all the oldies but goodies. sigh.

You might give Rain Gods or Feast Day of Fools a try, Miss Lisa.

The themes come from the same source. Let me know what you think. Some of my best writing is in White Doves at Morning or Jesus Out to Sea.

All the best,

Jim

trying to be authentically "southren" as possible, i made my ham and onion sandwich with vidalias, blue plate mayonnaise(really hard to get in illinois), and a dab of peppadew mustard. divine.
thank you for the reading suggestions, mr, b, i'm on it.
