@Connie, No, I am getting them now. I think it was because I wandered away from the fold for awhile. :)

HI Guys
I've been hanging out with Lisa Scottoline's stories lately ... the Rosato & Associates series is just wonderful ... Lisa was once a lawyer so her work has an authentic ring to it.

Anyhow, each book in the Rosato series focusses on one or two lawyers in the firm ... and boy do they get into mischief!! I've nearly finished the seventh in the series, Moment of Truth, which tells the story of a 16-yr-old model whose career is managed by her mother ... her lawyer father is mostly absent (busy at work, poor guy) ... anyhow, dad comes home for a special dinner with his daughter & wife and finds the wife deader than dead ... who done it?? Lots of interesting twists and turns!

Since I opened my Christmas presents, I'm reading the hell outta that book to get it done and over with (not to minimize how well it's written LOL) ... because ... ooooooo la la, eldest daughter gave me A New Kind of Monster: The Secret Life and Chilling Crimes of Colonel Russell Williams. Canada was shaken to its boots when the Colonel of our largest military base (8 Wing/CFB Trenton) was arrested for the murder and degradation of young women. His (now "ex") wife had no knowledge of his deeds.

The word "depraved" doesn't even come close to describing him nor his behaviours. The only good news? Russell Williams will never see the sweet light of day as a free man ... not ever!

Regards!!

I just finished Sue Grafton's latest, V Is for Vengeance. It's good to know that she has not lost her touch. The more she writes, the better she gets, the more involved and complex her stories. I can't shake the characters, who are multidimensional. Even the villains, not purely evil, are staying with me.

I just began Michael Connelly's The Drop. So far it stands up to his best. For my money, MC is the only writer who even approaches JLB in fine writing.

Bloodline by Mark Billingham.

Mark Billingham is a UK writer who is very, very good. This is his 9th book and the 8th to feature Detective Inspector Tom Thorne.

Thorne is a character along the same lines as Ian Rankin's Inspector Rebus (Rankin is another master), if you like one, you will like the other. Thorne's London is not a pretty place and the world he does his work in can be quite bleak.

In this novel, people are being killed and the bodies are being left with a small piece of an x-ray in their hands. What is the reason for this and is there a common thread to the killings?

The story is entertaining and fast-paced, Thorne and the rest of the cast tend to be easy to read about and likable. The mystery is not that difficult to figure out but this is not the main thing, it is the writing of Billingham that always gets me involved. Another plus to his writing is that there is a realism to it, Thorne is no superhero, he is an ordinary man with personal demons.

I think Mark Billingham is getting better with each novel he writes and that is a very good thing for readers of quality fiction.

I still have Sleepyhead to read but keep getting sidetracked. Is that a good one?

Currently reading Patriot Games by Tom Clancy.

Yes, Sleepyhead is very good. From memory it was the first Thorne. Original storyline as well.

HI Guys
I love wintertime ... too cold to go outside but perfect weather to read a good book 8)

I read a western, set in the 1850's, by Patrick Dewitt (his second novel), The Sisters Brothers. Goodness gracious what an unusual story. Take a peek at Dewitt's website http://patrickdewitt.net/works.html . And definitely give the book a look-see. I'm not normally a fan of westerns, per se, and I think the book "wrapped up" a little too quickly ... but overall, it's a great ride.

Now I'm reading Robert Crais' The Watchman ... an obscenely wealthy young lady sees something she shouldn't have ... is placed in witness protection ... and is guarded by the ever enigmatic Joe Pike ... gawd, I so enjoy a good shoot 'em up tale!

Regards!!

HI JB
Crais is fantastic, isn't he ... I feel like I'm right in the middle of all that chaos ... Pike's somewhat more vulnerable in this story than earlier ones ... helps me understand how he became the man he is.

But it's only just below freezing outside ... and the big blue sky makes going outside irresistible ... think I'll catch me some sunshine ... Pike will just have to wait :)
