I'm SOOOOOOOOOOO tired today because I bought Cormac McCarthy's THE ROAD last night, and could NOT put it down. Up all night reading. Have any of you read it? I'm interested in other interpretations of the ending.

The Ivory Grin by Ross Macdonald.

The detective novel had been around for many years prior to Ross Macdonald starting his series featuring Lew Archer, but the main writers (Hammett and Chandler) did not take their characters to the depth that Macdonald took Archer.

Archer sees the bleakness of the world through a cynic's eyes and reports to us his findings which are rarely optimistic.

Macdonald's books usually had the unlying theme of families disintegrating due to the sins of the past being reborn.

Macdonald's books are all classic detective fiction and well worth your time.

Just stopped reading ‘The Last Patriot’ by Brad Thor. It became so boring I couldn’t finish it. These so-called thrillers that have the protagonists careening from one crisis to another non-stop are just tedious.

So I put down ‘The Last Patriot’ and picked up ‘The Shadow of Power’ by Steve Martini. This one is holding my interest, so far. I have enjoyed reading the Paul Madriani series, of which this is the latest.

The interesting thing about these two novels is that both are centered on secret letters written by Thomas Jefferson. In the ‘Last Patriot’ the letter concerned revelations about Islam that would shake the foundations of that faith. In the ‘Shadow of Power’ the letter is said to contain secrets about slavery that would shake the foundations of our government.

Whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on there.

Reading "All the Pretty Horses" by Cormac McCarthy. It's pretty great.

Just finished Careless in Red by Elizabeth George. Thought I would never forgive her for killing Helen, but she is an excellent writer. An excellent book. Still can't bring myself to read What Came Before He Shot Her, though.

HI Guys
Almost finished JLB's "A Morning for Flamingoes" ... it was donated to my little libary last week ... YAY ... so finally I've found out about Dave and Bootsie.

Tonight I brought home McCarthy's ''All The Pretty Horses'' ... normally I don't enjoy westerns, but my library buddies have raved about it :)

Regards!
