Bill O'Reilly on his"Factor No Spin Zone" Thursday August 20th, 2009 segment gave a heck of a plug for JLB's new novel "Rain Gods". He said if you want to read some good fiction, read that book. He also said James Lee Burke was his favorite author.
Can't wait to get this novel.

Thank you Jim for this exciting book Rain Gods. Every book I have read so far has been wonderful stories laced with profound little statements about our human condition. Statements about grief make me gasp for air at the accuracy they convey. The second paragraph on page 19 of Rain Gods speaks to me so clearly and accurately I can only thank you for putting to words a long forgotten pain.

Thank you again,

I just finished Rain Gods a couple of days ago. I have been reading James Lee Burke for about 20 years now. Whenever someone asks me about fiction or writing or what authors I like, Mr. Burke is always my first response as a recommendation. Whenever I run across a title I have not yet read, and there are not many, I snap it up and read it. And while I read it, I am in absolute awe at the poetry of the work. The descriptions are pure poetry (as an MA in Italian Literature and the son of the Poet Laureate of San Francisco, I feel qualified to judge it as such). All I can say is thank you for writing such compelling prose that touches on so many aspects of our humanity while spinning a suspenseful yarn.
As pertains specifically to Rain Gods, I love the relationship Hack has with Jimmy Lorca (forgive me if I get the name wrong, I devoured my library copy and gave it back already...), the town drunk. Ester's character is also larger than life! Well, I look forward to the next time I get to wend my way through one your novels. Thank you.

Just finished Rain Gods, and was wondering how many lettes JLB got concerning is ignorance of the Tommy Gun.
Like most submachine guns the Thompson fires off an open bolt, so if Collins had released the bolt and chambered a round that round would have fired.

I would say no one...how could you question a man like JLB regardless if his knowledge of a tommy gun is off?? That's just my feeling on things.

Thank you, thank you, Mr. Burke. I've read just about everything I could lay my hands on that has been written by James Lee Burke. Love the characters, love how the stories are put together. Just finished Rain Gods yesterday: JLB on top of his game! I don't know how to convey how much I have enjoyed these books. I hope that there will always be another to read.

I think Hack Holland is truly a memorable and unique character. We're so glad you enjoyed Rain Gods. Hope you enjoy Creole Belle as well.
best wishes
