I've just now come across this post, but better late than never, right?
I like David Morse a lot. He's very convincing in his roles. However, I don't think he's right for Dave, the main reason being, he's way too big. I don't know if people realize it or not, but Morse is a big guy...like 6'4" or 6'5". To get the physical dynamic right, whoever was cast as Clete would have to be 6'7" or more. Not to mention he would tower over everybody else in the cast.
I would like to see Morse as a character in a Robicheaux story, just not sure which character. Maybe Troyce Nix, from Swan Peak?
One of my girlfriend's favorite characters is Monarch Little from Pegasus Descending. We were discussing who could play him. My vote is for Johnny Ray Gill, "Damien Winslow" from Harry's Law.
