Clete

Will we ever get to see a movie with Clete in it? I am in love with Clete! He's my kind of man! LOL I think all of Burkes books should be made into movies. I know the movie is never as good as the book but still fun to see if charector matches my mental images of book charectors. I finally received my copy of In The Electric Mist; guess what I'm doing this evening. :D

Your in for a treat Ms. Mckee. I wrote you an email, so look for one with Lonnie in the subject line. Its concerning signed books. I'm not certain if you know our Whitey yet, but he did have some JLB books to sell to members interested awhile back. Don't know if he still has them or still wants to sell them. I'm an ex trucker, so nice to meet you, Lonnie

I completely agree! Clete is one of the best charachters in all of the books I read.He is the perfect partner for Dave.
He can be incredibly crazy but one can't help loving this guy.
I can't remember if he was in the book "In the Electric Mist" Does anyone? Too bad the movie was not better. :D

HI Conor
Welcome :D

I introduced my mother (86-yr-old retired notary public & real estate agent, choir leader, WWII army veteran and general all-round cool gal) to JLB's books ... and, of all the characters, she loves Clete best. She said he's a hunk.

MOM!!

Regards!!

New here so bear with me. On one of the discussions someone had mentioned how JLB's work was too complex for a screenplay to do it justice and that a HBO type mini series might be the way to go. I couldn't agree more. They also said Clete should be played by Dalton Callie. He was Charlie Utter in deadwood and a badass drug dealer on John In Cincinatti. It's funny because as I was reading Tin Roof Blowdown, I started seeing that guy as Clete.

Hi, Mongo,

Welcome. Are you a surfer? Tell us a little about yourself.

Had not seen "John from Cincinnati" but think of Clete as seriously overweight, thus John Goodman keeps popping up in my brain. Same problem with Dayton Callie.

Do I have the wrong guy in mind? Gentle on the Cincinnati stuff as I grew up there.

HI Bongo

I see Danny Trejo as Clete ... he's lean and kinda scarred and kinda scarey looking but definitely owns a vulnerable side.

I realize Clete is not physically fit (understatement!!) ... there's more-than-one reference to him coughing up his lungs after chasing the bad guy.

Having said all that, I adore John Goodman ... I'd watch him read me a telephone directory, I kid you not LOL

Regards!!

Marilyn: First it's Bongo not Mongo. And no, I'm not a surfer yet. Before I die though I do plan to ride a wave. I live in Atlanta with my crazy girlfriend and her equally deranged cat. I work as a media specialist in higher education. I get down to Louisiana a couple of times a year. One of the things I like about JLB's books is how well he captures the environment of wherever he's talking about. He and I seem to see the swamp, the bayou, and even NuAwlins the same way.

Rose: I hear what you're saying about Trejo but I think he's a little too Latin for Clete and while Dayton Callie is certainly no dream date, I could hear him doing Clete as much as see him in the role.

Tin Roof Blowdown is the only book about Katrina that I've been able to read. All the excellent non-fiction accounts have angered me too much to finish reading them completely. I love New Orleans as much or more than someone would love a family member. Had the same thing happened to Savannah or Norfolk, I like to think I'd been just as outraged but can't honestly say for sure.

Bongo, sorry about the name mix up:

You talked about JLB''s ability to describe. Best description of that was another poster, Byron, who described JLB's writing:
" try to smell a bayou thru your eyeballs
